This Thursday marked the beginning of Netroots Nation, an annual gathering of progressives from across the country. These “activists” will likely spend three full days blaming House Republicans, George Bush, and the Koch brothers for all of the problems in the world today.
The conference began with several radical panels, including one titled Beyond Occupy: What Does a New Economic System Look Like?
This specific session included a number of no-name progressives, desperate for a chance to afflict the country with their message of “capital redistribution.”
The overall goal of the panel appeared to be a multi-faceted attack on conservatives and free market capitalism, along with extensive pleas for economic regulation of large companies.
In an effort to portray conservatives as heartless, one panelist offered her humble opinion that the “Heritage Foundation does not care about poor people.”
Simon Johnson, an economics professor at MIT and a former chief economist for IMF, told the audience that the economic woes facing this country have developed because of a “radicalization of the right.”
He went on to blame Newt Gingrich and Grover Norquist as having significant roles in the development of the crisis.
The panel discussed ways to reform capitalism, speaking of a “progressive capitalism,” where more people are involved in the ownership of the wealth.
Yes, they are talking about a redistribution of the wealth.
This panel is only one of many progressive discussions that will occur this weekend, and provides insight into the unfathomable level of animosity that progressives have for free market capitalism in the United States.
