As surprising as it may be, First Lady and “Let’s Move” advocate Michelle Obama will be passing out sugary treats to costumed kiddies for Halloween.
According to a release from the White House, FLOTUS and POTUS will open the doors of their home to children from local schools and kids of military families. The trick-or-treaters will receive a box of White House M&Ms, jelly beans, and a “White House Sweet Dough Butter Cookie made by White House Executive Pastry Chef Bill Yosses.”
Kids will also receive a serving of dried fruit.
The South Portico of the White House will be lit orange to welcome the kids and their families. Carved pumpkins, costumed topiaries of the First Dogs, spooky actors and a brass band will help make the setting even more festive.
The email release included the recipes for the White House cookies and the dried fruit mix. But the “recipe” for the dried fruit mix wasn’t much of a recipe at all.
Dried Apples Dried Pineapple
Dried Apricots Dried Papayas
Dried Pears Dried Cherries
Dried Blueberries Banana Chips
Combine ingredients and serve.
Maybe the “recipe” should have been directions to a grocery store where one could buy dried fruit mix.
Most recently, the First Lady has been promoting fresh fruits and vegetables with the help of characters from Sesame Street. In September, she also launched the “Drink Up” campaign to encourage Americans to drink more water.
