Rep. Fleming: Trey Gowdy to retire

Just recently, there were whispers of Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) becoming the next GOP leader. Not only will Gowdy not run for the position, but fellow Congressmen say he will actually not be back in the House at all after this term.

Rep. John Fleming (R-La.) told C-SPAN that “Trey wants to go back to South Carolina, and God bless him for that.” He also said that that’s what Gowdy has told other Republicans.

Fleming explained how he plans to retire at the end of his term:

He plans to go back home, and he wants to finish his work on the Benghazi special committee. But he loves South Carolina and he loves his family, and he wants to go back and spend the rest of his life there.

When asked, Gowdy spokeswoman Amanda Duvall told the Washington Examiner that “he is not announcing his retirement.”

Gowdy is a conservative icon known for his personality and questions. In their reporting on Fleming’s statements, the Washington Examiner posted a video of “Gowdy’s top grillings”

Just yesterday, Gowdy also grilled Planned Parenthood CEO president and Planned Parenthood about how she feels about those who disagree with her on abortion.

His usual style was quite prevalent in such an exchange. As Fleming pointed out, Gowdy “will be sorely missed.”
