Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R) may be seeking the state’s Senate seat in 2018 against Independent Sen. Angus King, himself a former governor.
Portland Press Herald reported that during an interview with “The Howie Carr Show” LePage said he was very strongly considering a run.
Even though LePage stated he was considering on that same radio program earlier this year as well, he admitted to a local Maine TV station WMTW that he was joking.
“Listen, you’ve heard the saying too big to fail — well in Washington, it’s too big to work,” LePage said.
If he decides to run, he will be challenging King. King said he will be running for re-election in 2018, despite having surgery related to prostate cancer on June 22.
LePage is a controversial governor. He has called the IRS the “new Gestapo” and once told the NAACP to “kiss my butt.” Despite all these comments, he won every county in Maine save two during his re-election campaign.
