During his show Monday night, Stephen Colbert took a few punches at Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.) for his recent comments about gays in the military.
“I’ve had people say, ‘Hey, you know, there’s nothing wrong with gays in the military. Look at the Greeks,'” Gohmert explained last week on a radio show. “Well, you know, they did have people come along who they loved that was the same sex and would give them massages before they went into battle.”
He went on to say that these “massages” are a problem in today’s military because American soldiers today engage in a “different kind of fighting.”
Adopting his usual persona, Colbert sarcastically agreed with Gohmert’s statement.
“That doesn’t work in today’s America’s military,” declared Colbert. “Gay massages have no place in our never-ending guerrilla war. ISIS isn’t going to postpone its ambush so you can finish listening to your favorite peruvian pan flute CD.”
He also described Gohmert as “pervasively, astoundingly, unyieldingly ignorant.”
