Thanks to The Social Network, everyone thinks Facebook when it comes to a company started by college students. But, as Time pointed out, while it “may be the most familiar of college startup stories … it’s hardly the only one.”
Some of the most well-known companies came from college students, including Insomnia Cookies, Reddit, The Onion, and Snapchat.
For those who are inspired by the list above, college may be the best place to start. Time notes:
There’s also “freedom in youth,” and time. Students can learn from their classmates what people their age like. They can take classes which improve business skills.
Funding opportunities and mentorships are important as well. Even if students don’t become as successful or famous as Mark Zuckerberg, hard work and dedication on a project can pay off into a product worth being proud of.
Why should these companies be the only ones started by college students?
