“#Violence is not the answer. We must have #peace in our #city, we are a city that’s built on #Believing in each other. #BaltimoreRiots,” the former NFL linebacker wrote on Twitter Tuesday morning. “We must come together,we can stop the violence as a #community. These kids have to have real leaders, we need everybody to join this #movement.”
Lewis, who played for the Ravens for his 17-year NFL career, also posted an emotional video message on Facebook, urging protesters that they are doing “nothing” for Freddie Gray by causing violence.
Riots have erupted in protest of Gray’s death, which occurred after the 25-year-old suffered a severe spinal injury while in police custody.
