After team disrespects anthem, VT coach uses vets to teach patriotism [VIDEO]

Virginia Tech basketball coach Buzz Williams was disgusted by the Hokies’ lack of respect during the national anthem, and decided to teach his team a lesson on respect and patriotism.

Changing the Game Project posted a video on Sunday showing the coach introducing his players to a group of veterans at the stadium.

“We didn’t earn those chairs,” Williams said to his team. “Your talent didn’t earn those chairs. How tall you are, how fast you run, and how well you shoot didn’t earn those chairs. Me drawing up a play, me recruiting real hard, me working really hard, I didn’t earn those chairs.”

“These guys when they were your age interrupted their life, they paused their education, they changed their career, and they gave their life for those chairs,” he continued.

He then instructed his team to stand tall and silent every time the national anthem is played, to honor those veterans.

Virginia Tech Athletics – PatriotismKudos to Coach Buzz Williams, VT Basketball Coach. Given the ignorance or disrespect evidenced by most of today’s athletes during our National Anthem, he decided to “have a talk with his players”. All coaches need to do something like this with their players!Coach Buzz Williams, VT Basketball Coach Don’t you wish all college coaches would do this? In a few years, there would a re-birth of patriotism on college campuses!Posted by Changing the Game Project on Sunday, March 6, 2016
