Nanny Bloomberg is at it again, this time pushing for a ban on sparklers because, according to him, if sparklers are legal, terrorists will win. But The Colbert Report host Stephen Colbert is pushing back, saying the Fourth of July is under attack.
“Get into the hands of the enemy?” Colbert said, referencing New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s comments. “Oh no, al-Qaeda might wait until dark and write ‘Death to America’ in the air.”
Colbert’s comments come after Bloomberg urged New York Gov. Michael Cuomo (D) to veto a bill allowing sparklers to be sold during the weeks of the Fourth of July and Christmas. Though the handheld fireworks, made without gunpowder, though, are illegal in New York City — and will remain illegal despite the bill — Bloomberg fears terrorists could purchase the sparklers from elsewhere in the state and smuggle them into the city.
“Folks, I don’t care what Mayor Buzzstomp over here says,” Colbert continued. “Sparklers deserve a seat at freedom’s table.”
