Trump supporters may be spirited — but they also have the worst grammar. The grammar checking website Grammerly.com released a study this week judging the writing ability of the various presidential candidates’ supporters.
The study ranked the 19 candidates based on how many grammar mistakes their supporters made in Facebook comments. Trump is in last place, with his supporters making 12.6 mistakes per 100 words. The candidate who fares the best is Democrat Lincoln Chaffee, with only 3.1 mistakes per 100 words.
Hillary Clinton and Carly Fiorina both tie for the 5th best candidate. Their supporters make 6.3 mistakes per 100 words. Interestingly, while Hillary fares the worst of the Democrats, Fiorina fares the best of Republicans.
The study also found that Republicans made over double the amount of mistakes per 100 words, at 8.7 mistakes, compared to 4.2 from Democrats.
Democrats fared better all around, as they also had 300 unique words compared to the Republicans’ 245 words. Their word count was also longer at 41.8 words to 32.4 words.
The Washington Post reported on the study, compiling representative samples from Trump’s Facebook page, as well as some others.
ThinkProgress also reported on it, mentioning the results may be stacked in favor of Democrats, considering there are many fewer candidates running.
At any rate, readers can check out the chart for themselves. And will be sure to enjoy the caricatures of the 19 ranked candidates.
