Democrats hijack Throwback Thursday to promote Obamacare

Popular hashtag trend Throwback Thursday or #TBT usually floods Twitter and Instagram feeds with baby photos and embarrassing college party pictures, but this Thursday the message was a bit different.

Top Democrats, including Vice President Joe Biden, hijacked the hashtag and shared photos of themselves at 26-years-old to promote Obamacare.

Under Obamacare, young people can stay on their parents’ health insurance plans until age 26 and the government needs these healthy young Americans to buy coverage in order to make its plan work.

Democrats have been making the rounds this week on Twitter promoting the #Bornin88 and #GetCovered hashtags in an attempt to convince more young people to sign up. They have partnered with organizations to host Twitter chats on the topic all week long.

According to analytics firm Topsy, their strategy seems to be working.  #GetCovered was tweeted around 175,000 times Thursday and #BornIn88 was tweeted about 160,000 times.
