Allen West: Obamacare “is an edict handed down by a tyrant”

While the majority of the country was celebrating the end of the two week government shutdown Wednesday evening, former Congressman Allen West (R-Fla.) was throwing a different kind of party: a pity party for America.

Late Wednesday night, West argued on his Facebook page that President Barack Obama is an oppressive ruler who does not respect the U.S. Constitution.

“I want the American people to understand that tonight the Constitutional Republic we know as America has suffered a horrible defeat.,” West wrote. “Obamacare is not the law of the land. It is an edict handed down by a tyrant, not a President.”

West, who frequently uses his Facebook page to make important personal announcements and to comment on current events, deplored the bipartisan deal to fund the government through January 15 and raise the debt ceiling until February 7.

At issue for West is the Obama administration’s decision to go around Congress to change the date that the employer mandate portion of Obamacare will take effect. West said that by giving up on its fight to defund Obamacare via government shutdown, the U.S. Senate (which brokered the deal) was effectively giving the President cart blanche authority to change legislation in the future without Congressional approval.

“This is reprehensible, and we can expect even more bad behavior from a President that continues to spit on our Constitution and in our eyes…and smile,” West said.

“Anyone voting for this tonight owes some explaining to Americans….but maybe not. As Obama stated, ‘I won.’ ”

Although the conservative Congressman has never been a fan of the Democratic President, his criticisms of Obama have become more severe as of late. Last week West called Obama “a spoiled brat child” and “a pathological liar.” The increase in insults are likely part of West’s quest to “get back on the front lines to expand the message of constitutional conservatism across our country.”
