President Obama just lost big to One Direction … on Twitter, that is.
Buzzfeed’s Matt Bellassai made the observation on Twitter Monday that a tweet sent from One Direction member Louis Tomlinson to fellow band member Harry Styles back in 2011 has surpassed Obama’s 2012 tweet following his reelection as the second most retweeted Tweet in Twitter’s history.
Always in my heart @Harry_Styles . Yours sincerely, Louis

While Obama’s tweet had nearly 758,000 retweets as of Wednesday afternoon, the One Direction tweet had garnered over 786,000 retweets.
Sorry, Obama.
While both tweets have won an incredible number of retweets and favorites, neither comes close to the No. 1 most retweeted tweet in Twitter’s history: Ellen Degeneres’ selfie tweet that she posted while hosting the 2014 Oscars.

It has well over 3 million retweets.
Yet, One Direction might find a way to catch up. Their fans sure do love them.
