Dictator or Hipster? Same style, different era

Hipsters may be known for being free thinkers, experimental, and individualists but oddly they all seem to dress a lot like former dictators.

When they were younger, a lot of dictators tended to be poor and spend a lot of time thinking about revolutionary thoughts at coffee shops and bars — not unlike millennial hipsters today.

So. here are six former revolutionary dictators who could have been seen at any local organic farm-to-table restaurant in a recently gentrified neighborhood.

This is not Zayn Malik or Williamsburg’s finest barista. This is Joseph Stalin:

It may look like your classmate from college, but this picture is of Italian Dictator Benito Mussolini.

This isn’t a young novelist you’ve seen at Starbucks; it’s Syrian President Bashir al-Assad with a sweater you could find at any thrift shop.

You may think you’ve seen him around at a poetry contest, riding a bike, or at a local farmer’s market — but in fact, it’s Russian Marxist Revolutionary Lev Davidovich Trotsky.

Long before anyone else knew to “Stay Woke,” Joseph Mobutu was rocking glasses that any #BlackLivesMatter activist would be jealous of.

This may look like independent film actress and writer Greta Gerwig, but it’s actually Eva Peron.
