That one time a Taco Bell event made Speaker Boehner tear up

As Nikki Schwab notes, it wasn’t because of the salsa, or the deliciousness of a Cheesy Gordita Crunch or anything — it was just for the kids.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) reportedly choked up at an event sponsored by the Taco Bell Foundation for Teens and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Tuesday. He fought back tears while lauding the work of the latter organization.

“Some of you know how I am about these things,” Boehner said, according to U.S. News. “We need to do a better job at educating more American kids. We live in America, for goodness’ sake.”

Also on hand at the event Tuesday was Kelly Rowland, who said of Boehner, “He’s so sweet.”

The T-Bell Foundation and the Boys & Girls Clubs announced a multiyear partnership this week, in which the foundation is expected to give $30 million to the youth-serving organization.

“Teens are our customers and our employees; they are our family and friends, and their success is our success,” Taco Bell president and foundation chairman Brian Niccol said of the announcement.
