Obama and the Democrats are afraid, very afraid, of the Supreme Court ruling on Obamacare

President Obama’s landmark piece of legislation, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act – the policy his entire presidency has centered on for the past three years – is currently under review by the Supreme Court. Oral arguments were held at the end of March, and the Supreme Court will make a ruling sometime before the end of June on whether all or parts of the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare, are Constitutional.

It remains to be seen how the Justices will rule or why, but three strong signs exist that Democrats think Obamacare will be overturned.

1. Responding to oral arguments on the constitutionality of Obamacare (and indirectly to the comments and questions made by the Justicesthemselves), President Obama insulted the Supreme Court as “an unelected group of people,” and said overturning Obamacare would be, “an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically-elected Congress.”

He went on to say that the Supreme Court overturning a law would be “judicial activism or a lack of judicial restraint.” Nevermind the unprecedented extraordinary actions the President and Democrats took when they placed the authority to fill in the details of most of the law in the hands of a group of unelected bureaucrats.

In other words, the president is so scared the Supreme Court will rightly rule the sweeping power grab by the federal government through Obamacare is unconstitutional that he feels desperate enough to bash the separation of powers outlined in the Constitution and the credibility of the Supreme Court as a part of our system of justice.

2.  In what appears to be a last ditch attempt to blame somebody else for their failures, the Democrats have ironically reframed and renamed the individual mandate (the part of the healthcare reform law that requires every person to purchase healthcare coverage, whether they want it or not).  The new name? The personal responsibility clause.

Why did they do this? Because personal liberty and personal responsibility are conservative principles.  Republicans support limited governmental powers so people are free to choose what’s best for their lives.  Democrats know the connotation attached to the phrase “personal responsibility” is one of freedom, and they want people to think the individual mandate does not violate freedom.

3. Democrats claim Republicans were the creators of the individual mandate (they are referring to a twenty-some year old research piece by the Heritage Foundation), and that it would be good for Obama’s reelection campaign if Obamacare were overturned.  Both are desperate attempts to take the focus off their own uncertain, monstrous Constitutional failure, and blame it on somebody else.

Countless other signs make it obvious Democrats think they are going to lose their landmark piece of legislation – too many to list here.

While the future of Obamacare is murky one thing is clear: Obama and the Democrats are very afraid. Based on their actions and words, they think the Obama administration’s one ‘accomplishment’ will be deemed unconstitutional and overturned.
