Chicagoans tee off on Obama for ignoring them

The mess at the southern border and President Obama’s reaction (or lack thereof) to the security threat it poses has been the subject of weeks of reporting. But the border isn’t the only place where Americans feel unsafe and many feel that the president is ignoring them. On Friday, a group of residents from one of Chicago’s Southside neighborhoods protested the violence plaguing their communities outside of the Chicago Police Department.

Much of the protest demonstrated the anger of residents who felt unsafe in and around their own homes, such as the group who joined a young boy in the chant “I can’t go out and play on my block!

At the same time, illegal immigration was a pressing concern. One father asked Obama to “have the same love for these young people as for the ones across the border.” Other residents used the opportunity to express their frustration with President Obama’s policies.

“He will probably go down as the worst president ever elected. Bill Clinton was the African-American President,” one resident said of Obama’s job performance.

“President Barack [Obama] needs to pay attention to Chicago, if he can not pay attention to Chicago and the African-American community, he needs to resign.”

Said one resident, “Obama needs to pay attention to Chicago.” After all, this is the city which he represented as a state senator and at the national level. If these neighborhoods feel forsaken, then Obama and the Democrats have a significant problem on their hands moving into the midterm elections.
