Hillary Clinton attacks for-profit colleges, despite deep ties to at least one such chain of schools

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton hypocritically attacked for-profit colleges on a campaign stop in Iowa Tuesday, failing to disclose her own close connections to at least one chain of for-profit colleges.

Clinton visited Kirkwood Community College this week and spoke with a few hand-selected students and educators during a round table. She used this time to latch onto President Obama’s free community college plan and to go after for-profits.

“Some of the for-profit schools, some of the scandals that have arisen in these places where they take all this money and put all these young people and their families into debt, even if they graduate they don’t have credentials that can get them those jobs,” Clinton said, according to the New York Daily News.

She also said that she wants to “flesh out the bad actors” in the education industry, Fusion noted.

But all of her harsh rhetoric failed to mention anything about Laureate Education, an international chain of for-profit colleges, and its deep ties to both Hillary and former President Bill Clinton.

Laureate hired Bill in 2010 as its global pitchman, the Daily Caller reported. Bill has traveled more than 12 times — and been paid an undisclosed amount of money — on the school’s behalf.

The Laureate Education was also one of the sponsors of the Clinton Global Initiative’s CGI University back in 2012.

Hillary deepened her connection to Laureate by using her previous position as Secretary of State to add the for-profit institute to her State Department Global Partnership, the Daily Caller noted.

The State Department Global Partnership exists to “strengthen and deepen U.S. diplomacy and development around the world.”

In return, Douglas L. Becker, Laureate’s CEO, has donated Hillary’s political campaigns, kicking in $4,600 during her 2007 presidential run and $2,000 in 2005 for Senate.
