Professor excludes Asian and white male students from job opportunity

A screen shot of an email from a George Washington University professor created a buzz on social media. It’s a case of promoting diversity at any cost.

Posted on the Facebook group, “Overheard at GW,” the mass email from economics professor Anthony Yezer notified students of a recruiting opportunity with the investment banking firm Goldman Sachs.

The email was sent to all students majoring in economics, but the professor specified that Asians and white males need not apply.

Yezer did not respond to a request for comment. A student who asked not to be identified told Red Alert Politics that while the email may have offended some, was not intended to be discriminatory.

“Better way of putting it would have been to set parameters of inclusion as opposed to exclusion,” the student said.

Of course, there’s a word for including only certain races: discrimination. Whether or not this request came from Goldman Sachs or if the race restrictions came from the professor, this email should have never been sent to students. The professor needs to answer for why he believes students’ opportunities should be limited based on their race and gender.
