If Penn Jillette is to be believed, Lawrence O’Donnell and Glenn Beck could soon be starring in a “darkly comedic thriller” — playing police officers.
According to Jillette’s FundAnything page, the MSNBC anchor and TheBlaze host have tentatively agreed to act in the film, called Director’s Cut. Jillette is apparently playing the villain.
And with four days and about $100,000 of the $999,972 budget to go, the film is looking more and more like a reality.
“‘Director’s Cut’ is a crazy idea for a movie,” Jillette wrote on the funding page. “It’s different than anything you’ve seen before. It’s scary, funny, and very meta. I like movies that are scary, but I don’t want them to be dirt dumb. I want a movie that gets my blood racing, makes me laugh, but also gives me something to think about, with maybe a little sexy thrown in.”
Jillette said he originally pitched the movie in Hollywood, and got positive feedback — though he claims they were lying. But he then added that the industry thought Director’s Cut would be too smart for audiences.
“Hollywood thought my script was really clever and creepy and funny and scary, but…it’s not the formulaic, cookie cutter bulls**t they’re comfortable making,” Jillette asserted.
The illusionist and comedian of Penn & Teller fame is also giving some neat rewards for certain levels of funding, such as your commentary being featured in the DVD for $3,500 or being a cop in the film for $2,450.
Read the film synopsis on the FundAnything page and cross your fingers that Beck and O’Donnell will, in fact, be partners in a “good cop/bad cop” movie.
