Dinesh D’Souza kicked of the Young America’s Foundation Freedom Conference in Raleigh, NC on Saturday morning to a crowd of college students eagerly awaiting what the Kings College President would say to them.
The theme of D’Souza’s talk was simply: who is Barack Obama and what exactly is his dream?
He gave a similar speech at CPAC last month, highlighting the President’s anti-colonial ideology with deep roots from his Kenyan father.
A preview of the film 2016, based on D’Souza’s book The Roots of Obama’s Rage was shown before D’Souza took the podium and set the stage for the rest of his talk. D’Souza explained that the film is called 2016 because it’s about what the United States will look like in 2016 if Barack Obama is reelected in November. And it is not a pretty picture.
After giving a funny anecdote about moving to the United States from India as a teenager, D’Souza launched into the meat of his speech: Barack Obama.
As D’Souza has said before, Obama is a pretty mysterious guy. He’s the most unknown man to ever be elected to the office of President and it was a unique set of circumstances in 2008 that put him there. And, unfortunately, it’s 2012 and Obama is still as much of a mystery as he was four years ago.
D’Souza went onto explain he’s not a typical Democrat. He’s not like Clinton or Carter or even Dukakis. “Jimmy Carter was a buffooon, but we knew what kind of buffoon he was,” D’Souza joked to the crowd, earning loud laughter.
Obama is different. We don’t know what his “compass” is and we as Americans still don’t know which claims about Obama are the right ones. And, as is typical for first term Presidents, we haven’t seen the “Full Obama” yet. He’s still readying himself for reelection, so it’s unlikely to see his true colors until a second Obama term.
To really understand Barack Obama, you have to look to his father, Barack Obama, Sr. D’Souza explained Obama, Sr. wasn’t exactly father (or man) of the year. He was an unfaithful husband of four different wives, was an alcoholic that eventually died from driving into a tree in 1982 and, almost most importantly, was an anti-colonialist.
D’Souza explained that Obama, Sr. was a guiding force in President Obama’s life, even though the President barely knew him. In the President’s book Dreams From My Father, he lets us know exactly his dreams are: those of his father.
D’Souza says that in order to really understand the President’s actions, you have to understand Anti-Colonialism, which is the basic idea that America reached its powerful place in the world by exploitation and the “balance” must be restored. D’Souza was quick to explain he doesn’t believe Obama is a traitor or even hates America. He just doesn’t want America to be the most powerful country in the world or “Number One.” Obama would be much more comfortable with America being a “normal” country. “Like Finland or the Sudan,” D’Souza said.
D’Souza used an analogy to end his remarks. “America is like the Lakers and we have a coach that doesn’t want us to win so much,” he said. He went on to explain that Obama believes “winning” too much makes the United States hubristic and instead of letting the United States flourish, he’s actively “calling plays against [the United States].”
“I was born in the third world and have embraced America,” D’Souza said. “Obama was born in Hawaii and has embraced a third world ideology,” he summed up.
