Sen. Marco Rubio: Hillary Clinton is a ’20th century candidate’

Hillary Clinton needs to prove that she’s in tune with the times before America can elect her as president, another 2016 presidential hopeful said Tuesday.

“I just think she’s a 20th century candidate,” said Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla) in an interview with NPR’s Morning Edition. “I think she does not offer an agenda for moving America forward in the 21st century, at least not up to now.”

Beyond her lack of a forward-thinking agenda, Clinton’s foreign policy record could also be a potential campaign hurdle, Rubio said.

“The truth of the matter is she was the secretary of state during an administration that has had virtually no successes on foreign policy” and “she will have to answer for that,” he said.

As for whether he himself plans to run, Rubio said that he will make a decision within the next few months.

The son of Cuban immigrants, Rubio also commented on the current border crisis, calling upon Mexico, Canada and other nations to “play a role” in addressing the challenging conditions facing Central Americans.

“It can’t all be on the shoulder of this country. There are things we can do and there are things we cannot.”
