There’s only one type of crime the majority of Americans (including, probably, Jennifer Lawrence) worry about: hacking.
Over sixty percent of Americans worry more about credit card or phone hacking than any other crime, according to the latest Gallup poll. That’s twice the percent of people who worry about terrorist attacks—twenty-eight percent.
Sixty-nine percent said they worried frequently or occasionally about credit card hacking, while sixty-two percent were concerned about their computers and phones being hacked.
All other crimes boasted far fewer worriers: forty-five percent worried about home burglary, for example, thirty percent worried about getting mugged, and just eighteen percent worried about being murdered.
The hacking concerns are certainly justified: tens of millions of people have had their credit card information compromised, according to The Hill, while the much-publicized iCloud and Snapchat hacks this year have left phone users wary of their data.
