College president challenges students to Madden NFL 15 tournament for free textbooks

The students at Columbia College in Missouri must be excited about their new president — well, at least the ones who enjoy playing “Madden NFL.”

President Scott Dalrymple, who became the 17th president of Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri, this year, is challenging students to a “Madden NFL 15” tournament on PS4. Those interested will compete on October 17 as part of his “inauguration festivities,” and the winner will challenge Dalrymple himself in the final round of the “Madden NFL” tournament.

The president released a video explaining the challenge, dubbing the tournament a “white hot crucible of competition.”

“One student will emerge, hardened like a piece of steel forged in the fires of Mount Doom, ready to face me in an epic showdown on the big screen in front of a live audience,” Dalrymple declares in the clip.

“You can play as any team you like: the St. Louis Rams, the Dallas Cowboys, the Chicago Bears,” he continues, talking a bit of smack. “You can even choose a professional team.”

Dalrymple’s team of choice will be the Buffalo Bills, who he calls “the greatest team in the history of professional sports.”

So, what’s in it for the students? Dalrymple guarantees that he will “personally buy” the winner’s textbooks for the academic year. He leaves those interested, however, with one warning: “I’ve been practicing.”

Individuals are encouraged to sign up on the challenge’s website, however full and part-time staff — even those who take classes — are barred from the competition.

Two students from any university in the U.S. will also win a chance to participate in the tournament by submitting their “best trash talk” via Twitter, Facebook or e-mail.
