As it is becoming more and more evident that millennial employees desire a more a ‘attractive’ work experience, companies are catching on and making changes to workplace culture.
Pim de Morree of Millennial Magazine shared some of the growing trends in the workplace, including picking one’s own work hours, unlimited vacation time, and working from anywhere, among other benefits. As millennials begin to dominate the workforce, employers are making big adjustments to please employees and make their work environment a desirable place to be.
Deloitte’s 2016 Millennial Survey breaks down the increasing demand for more employee benefits, both inside and outside the workplace. It found millennials are not making long-term commitments to their employers, as they “feel underutilized and believe they’re not being developed as leaders.”
Loyalty has evidently been lost in the workplace, as the survey showed that one in four millennials would leave their current occupation for an entirely new experience, if given the option.
This lack of loyalty spans across a wide variety of industries, presenting challenges for companies that have been forced to adjust benefits for their employees. With millennials flooding the workforce and acquiring leadership roles within their companies, there also comes a growing change in the typical work day. As the traditional 9-to-5 workday is slowly disappearing, and working from home is becoming an accepted norm, companies are compromising with their employees, solely to hold on to their younger staff and keep business afloat.
