The Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed that two male victims are dead at UCLA. The campus has been on deny-entry lockdown since 10 A.M. PDT. It was confirmed by police chief Charlie Beck that the campus is now safe and the situation was contained to a small office, where two adult males were pronounced dead at the scene. There was reportedly a suicide note found nearby the two victims, and the LAPD announced in a statement that this was a murder-suicide.
The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded to this incident and the LAPD sent hundreds of officers to the campus. According to the Daily Bruin, the shooter was wearing black pants and a black jacket. There is no known motive at this time.
Mehwish Khan, a 21-year-old psycho-biology student, told a reporter for the Los Angeles Times over the phone, “Everyone was very confused. We got in a building, and no one knew what was going on.” Students have been instructed to remain inside buildings and to keep all doors locked until further notice. Police are working to maintain order to the campus and have not yet released the identity of the two victims.
UCLA Bruin Alert reported that the shooting occurred in Engineering Building 4.
