In Georgia, a teacher at Darton State College was uncomfortable with a police officer having a gun in the classroom, and had the officer escorted out.
The officer is also a student at Darton State, according to WALB.
The issue appears to have stemmed from the teacher having a fear of a gun and didn’t understand campus policies.
Darton State restricts weapons on campus, even for those with a concealed weapon permit. However, law enforcement officers, judges, and district attorneys can possess a firearm on campus without violating campus policy.
The university apologized for the incident, calling it a “misunderstanding.”
“We have met with the faculty and staff involved to reiterate the Georgia Law and Darton Policy,” Interim Provost/VP for Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Thomas Ormond said.
The school has received heavy criticism for the incident, though it appears to be isolated.
