College sophomore Nick Selby was able to blast music during his convocation speech “like a badass” on Sunday. Why? Because he’s a Georgia Tech student and apparently they can do that.
With the theme music from 2001: A Space Odyssey blaring behind him — and his words perfectly timed to correspond with the crescendos — Selby paced across the stage delivering a convocation welcome that would make the best motivational speakers jealous.
“If you want to change the world — you’re at Georgia Tech, you can do that!” he shouted. “If you want to build the Ironman suit — you’re at Georgia Tech, you can do that! If you want to play theme music during your convocation speech like a badass — you’re at Georgia Tech, you can do that! I am doing that!”
The audience responded to Selby’s stirring performance with a standing ovation and applause.
“Congratulations on your acceptance,” he closed. “And brace yourselves for a hell of a ride on your way to becoming a hell of an engineer.”
Welcome to Georgia Tech, class of 2017.
