Bloomberg excludes gun control from list of things he cares about

With a $50 million pledge to curb gun violence, one would think gun control would rank fairly high on former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s list of priorities. But, alas, the billionaire left his recent efforts out when listing a string of things he cares about.

Bloomberg appeared Friday on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” to discuss Bloomberg Philanthropies, the former New York City mayor’s foundation. While rattling off a list of causes his organization helps — “things that I care about,” according to Bloomberg — he seemed to have forgotten gun control.

“Everything I have is going to the Bloomberg Philanthropies or directly to things that I care about,” Bloomberg said. “Climate change and the arts and public health and Johns Hopkins and other educational institutions.”

Oops.

The media mogul and gun control advocate pledged $50 million to combat the National Rifle Association and push for stricter gun control legislation. Though Bloomberg has attempted to rally support for gun reform through his organization Mayors for Illegal Guns, his new initiative seeks to influence legislation even further.
