Michelle Malkin honored with second annual Breitbart Award

ORLANDO – The Heritage Foundation and Franklin Center named conservative blogger and political pundit Michelle Malkin the winner of the second annual Breitbart Award on Thursday night at Heritage’s annual Resource Bank conference.

Malkin is a Fox News contributor, Townhall.com columnist, creator of the conservative Twitter curation site Twitchy and the author of four books, including Unhinged: Exposing Liberals Gone Wild.

“She embodies Andrew’s spirit,” said Michael Moroney, Communications Director of the Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity. “She carries on his work through her tireless commitment to uncovering the truth about government corruption and media bias.”

Malkin, who was the keynote speaker at the event, commented that like Andrew Breitbart, she also receives a lot of hate messages, leading her to joke that her next book would be called “You’ve got hate Mail.”

She noted that everyone in the conservative movement had been “touched” by Andrew’s life and work. One of the attributes she said she admired most about him was his willingness to stand up to the liberal media – which spins false narratives – and say, ” ‘Stop. Stop the lies,’ and to do it with a smile on your face.”

“It is amazing what one person and one voice can do,” she said.

Unlike last year, when a Professional Journalist, Blogger and Citizen Journalist were honored with three separate awards, only Malkin was honored this year.

Newly minted Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint emcee’d the event, which doubled at the Resource Bank’s official dinner. In attendance at the awards dinner were leaders of conservative think tanks and close friends of Breitbart and Malkin, including Jim Hoft aka “The Gateway Pundit,” Dana and Chris Loesch and GOPround founder Bruce Carroll aka “Gay Patriot.” After the dinner Malkin joined the group for a small reception and photos.
