The Republican National Committee (RNC) has launched a new website, PromiseGap.com, to hold President Obama accountable for what it sees as his broken promises since becoming president.
The president’s promise to fix the economy or face a one-term presidency stands of the top of the list of Obama’s Top 10 Failed Promises featured on the site.
Obama said in 2009 that his presidency would be “a one-term proposition” if the economy wasn’t fixed over the course of the following two years. The unemployment rate has exceeded 8 percent for 40 straight months, and with 23 million Americans unemployed or underemployed the economy is far from fixed.
Obama also promised to make it easier for students to pay for college, yet college tuition and average student loan debt among America’s youth are currently at record highs. This has made it more difficult for students to attend college and reduce their loan debt after school.
Also among Obama’s Top 10 Failed Promises according to the RNC are Obama’s stimulus package, the energy crisis, the national debt, his failed housing program and rising health care costs.
“There is a clear, quantifiable gap between the promises he made to the middle class and the results of his policies,” RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement. “The president said he wanted voters to hold him accountable, so, after four years of failing to meet the standards he set for himself, the American people will do just that in November.”
