They may be competing against each other to be the GOP presidential nominee, but Ted Cruz and Donald Trump both headlined a rally against the Iran nuclear deal. They even embraced each other.
C-SPAN posted a video of both Cruz and Trump.
Cruz called the deal “catastrophic” and “the single greatest security threat facing America.” He had particularly strong words for the 42 Senate Democrats who have come out in favor of the deal and asked how they would look in the eye the family members of those Americans murdered. He claimed that:
Cruz had also warned that “if this deal goes through, we know to an absolute certainty, people will die.”
He called on Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to block the deal by enforcing federal law.
For Cruz, “the single most important issue in 2016 will be stopping Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.” He also added that “any Commander-in-Chief worthy of defending this nation should be prepared to stand up on January 20, 2017 and rip to shreds this catastrophic deal.”
In his closing, Cruz mentioned Trump, thanking him for joining them. He also referred to him as “my friend.”
When Trump first took the stage, he acknowledged that Cruz had called him three days before the rally about getting a crowd. In typical Trump fashion, he spoke about his own deals:
Trump acknowledged the points Cruz made. Specifically with regards to the four American prisoners being held in Iran though, he called it a “guarantee” that “they will be back before I ever take office…”
During his speech, Trump revealed statements from Iran’s Supreme leader, about Israel not existing in 25 years, and how this is the end of Iran’s dealings with the United States. “So, they rip us off, they take our money, they make us look like fools, and now they’re back to being who they really are,” Trump added.
About leadership, Trump reiterated that “we are led by very, very stupid people, very, very stupid people.” He took the chance to bring up the $19 trillion debt, and how “we lose everywhere,” with beating ISIS and treatment of veterans. Trump also, of course, found a way to bring up winning:
Predictably, Trump closed by saying “we are going to make America great again.”
There was some insight from Cruz, and the usual charm from Trump. Most lasting of all, however, could perhaps be the signs of the possible power team that is Ted Cruz and Donald Trump.
