Fox News’ Jesse Watters went to Iowa to discuss the caucus and find out if young Bernie Sanders supporters knew any real facts about socialism.
The video, shown on an episode of The O’Reilly Factor, featured four Sanders supporters from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. While they all said they were fans of the socialist senator, they didn’t really know much about what he would do or how.
When discussing how he would help the poor, one of the college students couldn’t even master the phrase ‘tax the rich.’
“The percentage rates of how much you pay back of interest,” said one college student while discussing how Sanders will pay for his social safety net.
On the issues of taxes and if it’s okay to raise taxes to 90 percent, the Sanders supporters had no issue with it as long as it wasn’t on them.
“For the people who’ve been not taxed enough, yes,” said the same student who didn’t understand how taxes worked in the previous question. Another supported not only supported the position, but told Watters should also get behind that platform considering he also wasn’t in the top one percent.
In order to show one college student who was “feeling the Bern” how socialism really worked, Watters took five dollars from the student’s wallet to give to the campaign by force when the student revealed that he had not “given a single dollar” to Sanders .
The issue most of these students were concerned with was looking for more help with paying for college. One student said he’d like school to be free because as he said, “why should I have to pay for higher education?”
That same student said that he would like to see America become more like Switzerland — there he is probably painfully unaware that Switzerland just voted to reduce immigration in 2014 and voted for a Donald Trump-like nationalist party in 2015.
