CNN host and gun control advocate Piers Morgan was schooled on Tuesday night’s show by two Lone Star Community College students on the need for concealed carry on college campuses.
Jonathan and Jon Paul Clayton, two brothers who attend the Texas school where a mass stabbing occurred earlier in the day, argued that if students were allowed to carry guns on campus the stabbings might not have occurred.
“We are adults and the government does not permit us to have — carry weapons even, sir, even if you have the certificates and certification to carry a handgun,”Jonathan Clayton told Morgan. “And I think that law should be changed for protection.”
“Because 99.9 percent of all gun owners are legal, abiding citizens,” John Paul Clayton added.
As one would expect from the anti-gun British ex-pat, Morgan still wasn’t convinced, so Texas State Sen. Dan Patrick, a Republican, came on the show to continue the fight.
Patrick immediately came out swinging, telling Morgan, “I thought you were going to have a new issue tonight, Piers. I thought you would want banning of knives all over America because you have wanted to ban guns.”
“Why would you start the conversation by being so completely facetious?” Morgan responded.
“Because actually the way you’ve been thinking about the whole gun issue, I found just totally out of touch with reality,” Patrick fired back.
“Piers, thank God this young man did not have a gun today,” Patrick argued. “Think about the massacre that could have been stopped if another student had had a gun. And my guess is if this student with the knife had known that people with the [concealed handgun license], law-abiding citizens had a gun, he wouldn’t have stabbed 12 or 14 people today.”
When Morgan pointed to his audience as an example that not all Americans agree with Patrick’s argument, the Texan snubbed them as “northeast liberals.”
“In Texas, we believe in defending our families and our properties with guns,” Patrick added.
