11 books you should read in college that will change your life

BuzzFeed posted a list of 15 college books that students claim changed their lives. It’s a list of liberal titles that question the effects of colonialism, capitalism, gender constructs, and the patriarchy.

So, Red Alert Politics constructed a list of 11 books, both fiction and nonfiction, that students should read in college to help counter the waves of indoctrination that they’ll be exposed to this upcoming year.

Economics in One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt

Easily one of the best books on economics and the consequences of government intervention in the market. It’s a pretty light read and will change how you view any argument that starts with “the government should be doing…”

Human Action by Ludwig Von Mises

A much more intellectual dive into economics, but one worth a look. Von Mises is the father of Austrian economics, sound money, and free markets.

Black Rednecks and White Liberals by Thomas Sowell

Race, economics, and class; this book has it all. It details how black Americans emerged from slavery, started moving out of poverty, and became trapped by white liberals who claim they’re doing what’s best for them.

Sexual Personae: Art and Decadence from Nefertiti to Emily Dickinson by Camille Paglia

Liberals want you to believe that gender is a social construct and that there’s absolutely no difference between the sexes. Well, anyone questioning that orthodoxy needs to read Paglia’s Sexual Personae.

Meltdown by Thomas E. Woods

The Great Recession has haunted Americans, especially millennials, for nearly a decade. While Bernie Sanders supporters may blame it all on greed and the free market, the government was actually very much to blame. Woods’ book was the first one to explain how our economy collapsed and how to put it back together.

What Are People For? by Wendell Berry

A series of essays that question the state of the American economy, welfare programs, farming, Christianity, and foreign policy. Berry is one of the few authors that both liberals and conservatives find profound.

Diary of a Man in Despair by Friedrich Reck

An absolutely stunning diary of a man who saw his country destroyed by Nazism. Reck is an active conservative in Germany and writes about the rise of Hitler and how it destroyed everything he loved. This book blows away the myth that conservatives became Nazis.

The Politically Incorrect Guide to Western Civilization by Anthony Esolen

College students are going to be exposed to an endless series of assaults against Western civilization. Esolen’s book does a good job giving facts about Athens, Jerusalem, Rome, and London that most students will never be exposed to during their time in college.

The Victims’ Revolution: The Rise of Identity Studies and the Closing of the Liberal Mind by Bruce Bawler

This book rebukes the identity politics that consume the university system and seeks to divide students by areas of race, sex, and gender studies.

Animal Farm by George Orwell

A classic, political satire of Stalinism and the cult of personality and reign of terror that gave rise to authoritarians.

The War Against Boys: How Misguided Policies are Harming Our Young Men by Christine Hoff Sommers

Great book by the brilliant Hoff Sommers, one of the few feminists out there who’s critical of third-wave feminism.
