Secretary of State Hillary Clinton may have finished testifying about the Benghazi attacks, but that doesn’t mean Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) are satisfied.
The two politicians are calling for continued investigation into the consulate attacks in Libya that claimed the life of four Americans, writing a letter on Tuesday to the Senate and House of Representatives requesting action.
“We believe that the U.S. Congress has a responsibility to the American people to conduct appropriate oversight over this issue,” the duo wrote. “We are not satisfied by the testimony given by Secretary Clinton last week, nor do we believe the complete picture was given by the ARB [Accountability Review Board].”
Rand and Duncan criticized the State Department for the inadequate action it had taken before, during and after the consulate attack, as based on the findings by the ARB and the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. They also had harsh words for Clinton, who has not removed any State Department staff from their posts in light of the Benghazi attacks.
“Instead, these individuals have only been placed on administrative leave, and they continue receiving paychecks from the American taxpayers,” Rand and Duncan wrote.
The two politicians also condemned the ‘it was the video’ rhetoric surrounding the attacks and said Clinton was misleading the American people through her “attempts to shift the blame for the State Department’s mismanagement and poor leadership to a lack of funding from the U.S. Congress.”
Rand and Duncan sent their letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Speaker of the House John Boehner, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi.
