Al Sharpton: I will not appear on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ for publicity

Apparently, there is at least one thing Rev. Al Sharpton refuses to do for attention.

Sharpton delivered remarks Monday at the National Action Network’s Washington, D.C., breakfast held in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and particularly addressed claims that he is always looking for attention.

“You often hear people say, ‘Oh, there they go again, Sharpton and them wanting publicity,'” explained Sharpton. “That’s exactly what we want. That’s right. Because part of the role of activist is to get your attention.”

No matter how much of an “activist” he is, though, Sharpton will not stoop to the level of D-list celebrities that have appeared on “Dancing With The Stars” to stay relevant.

“You don’t see me on ‘Dancing With The Stars,'” he continued. “You see us dealing with social issues and [drawing] the attention to those issues. And, if you don’t do that, people are not going to deal with those issues in the dark.”

Sharpton has gotten “publicity” lately for calling an “emergency meeting” of his “task force” in order to address the fact that there were no black nominees in any of the acting or directing categories for this year’s Oscars.

Should “Dancing With The Stars” ever feature an entire white cast, one can imagine that Sharpton would visit the show’s set to tango with its producers.
