Illinois governor all kinds of jacked up about Olive Garden

The office of Illinois Governor Pat Quinn announced the opening of Chicago’s first Olive Garden Monday as if the Cubs had just won the World Series.

“Governor Quinn Announces the Wait is Over for Chicago’s First Olive Garden Restaurant,” the office proclaimed to a city of 2.7 million people whose dining options are virtually limitless. The Cubs have been waiting to win the Fall Classic for 106 years.

The announcement touted the restaurant’s associated “170 Jobs, Never-Ending Pasta Bowl and unlimited breadsticks to help feed Illinois’ growing workforce,” which is a Hall-of-Fame sequence of words.

Quinn focused on the jobs aspect of Olive Garden’s arrival to the city.

“Illinois’ restaurant industry is thriving and establishments like Olive Garden are helping drive our economic comeback,” he said.

Eater Chicago reported that Quinn attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the establishment Monday morning.

Quinn, a Democrat, is in a tight reelection battle with Republican challenger Bruce Rauner. While the sitting governor touts Olive Garden-Chicago, Rauner has the backing of Chicago steakhouse restauranteur Mike Ditka.
