‘The Onion’ rolls out viral content site

What happens when you combine the satire of The Onion with the addicting content of Buzzfeed? You get ClickHole, a new parody site launched by The Onion this week that features articles, videos, quizzes and blogs guaranteed to satisfy your appetite for viral, albeit satirical, content.

The site stands for the motto, “All web content deserves to go viral.” ClickHole prides itself on “mak(ing) sure that all of (its) content panders to and misleads (its) readers” enough to get it millions and millions of shares.

Click-worthy stories include “6 Heads You Never Realized Are Also On Mount Rushmore” and “5 Iconic Movie Scenes That Were Actually Fake.” Are you more in the mood for some tough questions? Take the “If I Ordered Fries, Would You Have Any?” quiz. Then, there’s always the blog post that argues for Ronald McDonald’s public execution.

The Onion, or “America’s finest news source,” has certainly fooled people with its fakes stories in the past. Perhaps ClickHole will present the opportunity to play similar jokes on a massive scale by generating its viral posts.

Additionally, its inventors have their sights set on Internet innovation. “Our team is hard at work on a version of ClickHole that can be navigated using only the power of your mind. Until then, you can learn how to click on our content,” the site boasts. Clearly, ClickHole believes in the strength, and gullibility, of the human brain.
