Budweiser is giving the pimp cup a makeover.
The beer company is introducing its “Buddy Cup,” a glass that doubles as a way to hold your brew and make new Facebook friends.
The trick is the cup’s built-in chip that keeps you connected to Facebook while you’re enjoying a pint. In order to link your Facebook profile to the glass, you scan the QR code on the cup with your smartphone.
Every time you cheers another “Buddy Cup” owner, you’re officially Facebook friends. It’s that easy. Because actually finding someone online these days is like still having dial-up — too much effort.
And if you black out and don’t remember any of the new friends you made, Facebook announces all your new friendships on your wall.
“Now toasting has received an upgrade,” the male narrator boasts in a promotional video. “Buddy Cup: the more Buds, the more friends.”
If only there was a cup that could give you more Twitter followers.
The new cup — which is unfortunately just a prototype — was unveiled at a Budweiser party in San Paolo, Brazil, and the glass is unavailable in the United States. In fact, it might not be mass-produced at all. For now, the techy pint glass will be party favors at Budweiser-sponsored events.
But party attendees beware. This time if you mix up glasses, you’re swapping more than just spit.
