On Monday, the Princeton Review released its 2014 list of Top Party Schools. But TPR found that not every college student likes to party like Ke$ha. In fact, besides discovering the top party schools in the nation, TPR also found the top 20 “Birkenstock-Wearing, Tree-Hugging, Clove-Smoking Vegetarians” schools.
In a voluntary survey on TPR’s website and distributed throughout various schools nationwide, 126,000 students were asked to describe their overall political persuasion on campus, overall drug use, the popularity of student government, the overall LGBT acceptance on campus, and how religious people are on campus.
Schools with less religion and more drugs and liberalism found themselves in the “Birkenstock-Wearing, Tree-Hugging, Clove-Smoking Vegetarians” schools. But conservative schools with less tolerance for LGBT rights found themselves in the “Future Rotarians and Daughters of the American Revolution.”
The two category descriptions aren’t exactly accurate, however humorous. Instead, they stereotype and mischaracterize individuals involved in Rotary or DAR, assuming them to be straight-laced conservatives, and imply that liberals can’t be religious or involved in student government.
