A video posted today by the Restore Our Future PAC gives 2012 Republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, a lot of credit for saving the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
The video features former Olympic medalist and figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi—among others—who briefly share how their experience on the world stage would not have been possible without Romney. “Mitt Romney brought a huge sense of hope,” Yamaguchi said.
The video was timed to be released with the 2012 games, which are currently under way in London. Romney was also in the United Kingdom over the weekend for the opening ceremonies of this year’s Summer Olympics.
The video draws parallels between what Romney faced when he coordinated the Olympics in Salt Lake City, with what a President Romney would face if he were to win the election this fall and inherit a troubled economy.
The video claims Romney took a $400 million budget deficit and turned it into a $100 million surplus. The other athletes featured in the video were gold medalist skeleton racer Jimmy Shea, speed skater and gold medalist Derek Parra, and Fraser Bullock, the Chief Operating Officer of the 2002 Winter Games.
