“American Sniper” may not have won big at the Oscars ceremony, but Taya Kyle, the wife of the movie’s deceased subject Chris Kyle, definitely won the red carpet.
Kyle was flown to the event by Warner Brothers and she posted an emotional Facebook status about it the morning of the event. The trial for the man who shot and killed her husband is ongoing, she noted, not the best time for something like this.
“I wanted to support everyone who made this movie representing real veteran families, but I didn’t think I had the energy to show up at the Oscars, let alone be presentable. So, I find myself in a surreal position…like Cinderella who scrubs the floors but has a fairy Godmother (Warner Brothers) who got me on a plane and had a dress and jewelry and even the shoes and spanx waiting for me…,” Kyle wrote.
“And so it is. I am here. To represent my husband, military families and the beautiful people who put more than they had to to make this movie happen…It’s by the Grace of God and the support of people like you who literally give me the energy to get out of bed each day and see the beauty through the ashes of my life.”
Post by Chris Kyle.
Kyle carried her husband’s dog tags in her hand on the red carpet.
“I’m so grateful for everything that went into this movie. I wanted to be here to represent Chris, obviously, and it’s not the ideal time to do that, but I still wanted to embrace everything that he should be here to do with me,” she told ABC’s Robin Roberts.
Roberts asked what her husband would think about “American Sniper” and the attention it has received.
“He would be absolutely blown away, and he would be his usual humble self, laugh at himself, probably make fun of it in some ways, but deep down, he would be really, really happy that so much healing is happening for couples who are healing with this movie, and opening a dialogue,” she said.
“It’s something he would be proud of.”
