No more snowballs for snowflakes: University forbids throwing snowballs

Delaware State University has forbidden “throwing snowballs” on campus. Their reasoning is that it’s a “personal violation” that may cause “harm” to others.

We know safe spaces are popular in higher education, but really?

The odd rule, found in the school’s Division of Student Affairs Student Judicial Handbook, simply lists “The throwing of snowballs on University grounds” under the “Personal Violations” section.

Most of the handbook is about the illegality of drugs and alcohol on campus, as well as anti-hazing policies and explains disciplinary action and recourse procedures for students. The throwing of snowballs is outlawed in the same section of the student handbook as being in the shower area of the opposite sex, stalking, or threatening violence.

Delaware State University Assistant Director of Judicial Affairs Lawan D. Lanier-Smith told The College Fix, “This was made a rule due to the students throwing snowballs in the residential halls and there being the potential to harm others with hard, iced-over snow.”

Delaware State University also forbids “possession of water guns, super soakers, etc. on University premises” as well as the “wearing of masks or any other item that conceals the face.”

No water gun fights in the warm months. No snowball fights in the winter. Campus bureaucracy: No fun at all.
