The American people currently rate our country’s politicians the “most important” problem facing the nation, according to a Gallup poll released Wednesday.
The survey shows that 18% of individuals labeled the government and politicians the greatest problem in the United States. A slightly smaller 15% named immigration is our nation’s greatest issue, and 14% went with the economy.
Back in July when the same poll was conducted, immigration came out on top as the greatest problem with 17% of respondents naming it, while dissatisfaction with government and politicians took the second spot with 16%.
These statistics come in the wake of a NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll showing that an incredible 74% of Americans say that Congress is unproductive, while only 22% think Congress is productive in any way.
The Gallup statistic is not only about Congress, though; it refers to politicians and government in general, meaning President Obama is included.
Unfortunately for the White House, this should come as no surprise, seeing as Obama currently holds an approval rating of 42%. That means the majority of Americans actually disapprove of the president’s current leadership (or lack there of).
The president is currently enjoying his 15-day vacation on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, attending parties and fundraisers and — why not — playing golf with NBA stars.
The Gallup poll was conducted between August 7 and 10, surveying about 1,000 Americans over the age of 18 by telephone.
