What Bernie Sanders is lacking in the polls, he sure is making up for it in confidence.
In an interview with Jorge Ramos, the Univision host asked Sanders if he still thought that Hillary Clinton was “not inevitable,” if he could beat her for the party’s 2016 presidential nomination. The Vermont senator responded, “Oh, absolutely. No question.”
And though by all accounts, Clinton is seen as the most likely to win the democratic nomination, her opponent may have a point. Recent opinion is starting to see Clinton’s campaign as less of the democratic process and more of, what she believes, as her own deserved coronation.
Just as Donald Trump has been seen as somewhat of a foil to the ‘politics as usual’ candidates in the GOP, Sanders has done the same thing to shake up the Democratic primary, which has been dominated by attention to all things Clinton.
Ramos hinted at this when he asked Sanders if he thought he was “pushing Hillary to the left” and “exposing her weakness.” Sanders replied that by “telling the truth,” he is forcing her and other candidates to get back in touch with the American people and reality.
Beyond the Clinton factor, Sanders would still face an uphill battle should he steal the nomination and move on to the general election. But his confidence in a future political battle doesn’t waver.
“We’re electable …we can win this thing, one-on-one against the Republican candidates, we can win.”
