[WATCH] ‘SNL’ spoofs GOP celebrating government shutdown in ‘We Can’t Stop’ parody

The GOP is getting down and dirty in celebration of the government shutdown — or at least that’s how Saturday Night Live depicted it in a spoof of Miley Cyrus’ hit song “We Can’t Stop.”

The parody, titled “We Did Stop (The Government),” features SNL actor Taran Killam as the orange-toned GOP House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and host Cyrus as Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.).

Throughout the spoof, Killiam wears spot-on recreations of Cyrus’ costumes in the original music video, and Cyrus wears a suit coat as she imitates Bachmann. The scene features a wild rave party being thrown by Boehner and Bachmann, as they celebrate their success at shutting the government down.

The lyrics to the song were changed in order to depict the GOP as a party that absolutely doesn’t care about the country. However, Boehner made an appearance on ABC‘s This Week on Sunday, where he expressly said he had not wanted to shut down the government.

Here is a sample of the song lyrics:

“Red states and sweaty bodies everywhere

Bill’s in the house like we don’t care

‘cause we came to shut it all down now

No government around now

If you’re not ready for health care

Can I get a “HELL, NO!”

‘Cause we’re gonna keep it shut down

D.C.is a closed town all-round

So la da di da di

Republican Party

Repping GOP

Doing whatever we want

This is our house

This is our rules

And we did stop (the government)

Yeah, we did stop (shut that down)

Can’t you see it’s we

Who are the right?

Can’t you see it’s we

Who ‘bout that life?”
