Despite an investigation that has revealed a concerted effort to target conservatives in what is quickly becoming a national scandal, liberal blowhard Ed Schultz appears puzzled as to why the IRS would issue an apology to those conservative groups.
“IRS is apologizing to conservative groups over a number of audits. I ask the question, ‘why?’” the MSNBC host wondered aloud during a segment titled “rapid response” during the May 11 broadcast of the revamped “The Ed Show.”
After listening to Schultz explain that the IRS merely wanted to “single out” groups with terms like “tea party” or “patriot” in their titles to make sure they were legitimate non-profits deserving of a tax exempt status, ‘Ed Show’ guest Michael Eric Dyson said that it was all “much ado about nothing.”
The Ed Show is back on MSNBC in a new format appearing on Saturday afternoons, but it’s clear that the show is still a left-leaning echo chamber.
Amidst the news that a report was surfacing that revealed the IRS was paying special attention to (read, auditing) non-profit conservative groups leading up to the 2012 election, Lois Lerner, the woman in charge of overseeing groups with tax-exempt status at the IRS, issued an apology last week stating, “That was absolutely incorrect, it was insensitive and it was inappropriate. That’s not how we go about selecting cases for further review.”
And in a report by the agency’s inspector general, it was discovered that the IRS was deliberately focusing on groups that not only criticized the government, but groups that seek to educate people about the United States Constitution.
This scandal isn’t some partisan witch hunt that amounts to “much ado about nothing,” as even high profile Democrats recognize the seriousness of the targeting.
“These actions by the IRS are an outrageous abuse of power and a breach of the public’s trust,” Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) said.” Targeting groups based on their political views is not only inappropriate but it is intolerable… Americans expect the IRS to do its job without passion or prejudice. We need to get to the bottom of what happened here. … The IRS will now be the ones put under additional scrutiny.” Sen. Baucus pledged to hold hearings to get answers from the IRS.
Even President Obama seemed to underscore the weight of this partisan attack, stating at a press conference today that if these reports are true, “then that’s outrageous and there’s no place for it — and they have to be held fully accountable … I’ve got no patience with it. I will not tolerate it.”
