Donald Trump wants Oprah as his running mate: ‘We’d win easily’

It’s no secret Donald Trump is pretty confident about his presidential bid, but with Oprah as his running mate? “We’d win easily.”

After much speculation, The Donald officially announced his campaign on Tuesday morning, sitting down with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos afterward for his first interview as a candidate.

Stephanopoulos brought up Trump’s 1999 presidential aspirations when he told Larry King that he would consider Oprah for a running mate, and asked Trump if she was still on the short list.

“I like Oprah what can I tell you?  She’s great, she’s talented, she’s a friend of mine, she’s a good person,” Trump effused. “I think Oprah would be great. I’d love to have Oprah. I think we’d win easily, actually.”

The iconic talk show host and big time Obama donor hasn’t been in the spotlight much in recent years after ending her cable talk show in 2011 and moving onto her own network, but she is a universally known and respected celebrity and opinion leader.  And Trump, ever the savvy business man and self-promoter, knows this.

Though his epic announcement gave the media enough comedic material to last them weeks, tagging Oprah as his dream choice of a running mate only keeps the people talking about him, good or bad.

There has been no official response from Oprah yet, but longtime friend Gayle King said on CBS This Morning of a Trump/Oprah ticket“I would bet my life, my first born, and my second born, that ain’t happenin’.”

Even so, it is fun to imagine an ever-giving Vice-President Oprah shouting, “You get free healthcare! And you get a tax break! And you get free college!”
