Sofia Vergara is gushing about the time she met President Obama.
The actress told Howard Stern on his SiriusXM radio show Monday that she had a brief and pleasant encounter with the president during a tour of the White House in 2013 with her “Modern Family” costars ahead of that year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.
“We didn’t think we were going to see [Obama] or anything,” Vergara recalled, according to The Hill. “And when we were just passing along, he opened his door, and [was like,] ‘Guys, come in!'”
“His kids are fans of ‘Modern Family,’ so that was cool,” Vergara observed. “He’s a charming guy.”
When quizzed about how she addressed the president, Vergara dubbed Obama “very handsome.”
“I said, ‘Mr. President,’ and everything, ‘hello,'” she explained to Stern, adding, “I don’t think he wanted me to talk very profound things.”
“You have to like, respect his time,” Vergara continued. “He’s the President of the United States. He has more important things to do than talk with me, chit chatting.”
Vergara attended the annual Correspondents’ dinner in Washington, D.C., in 2012, 2013 and 2014, during the third of which she made a connection with her now-fiance Joe Manganiello.
Though the actress wasn’t present at this year’s Obama-hosted event, many of her castmates were in attendance, including Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet.
Of course, it comes as no surprise that Obama — a self-proclaimed “Modern Family” fan — would invite them.
